Re thinking "Seasonal Living" in a consumerism driven world (+ the new duck coop!)
We’re getting back into the garden with the start of Spring and I’ve got some rumbling thoughts on “seasonal living” for you!
I’ve always thought living seasonally was about about ripe strawberries, farmers markets and magazine articles about ’14 ways to enjoy pumpkin’ in through the Autumn days.
But as I watched the ugly, bedraggled winter garden, and as I’ve thought about seasonal living alongside our journey of bucking consumerism… I’ve dug deeper and rethought what seasonal living might actually mean.

Great video with an important message. I’ve been feeling it this winter too, and I’ve delved deep enough into the words of some pagan and animist thinkers to know that seasonality goes very deep into how people in these latitudes have seen the world around themselves and followed its rhythms for thousands of years. It is only since the Industrial Revolution that people have lost the connection with the cycles of nature (the need for profit doesn’t allow for cyclicality). I don’t know if it’s approaching midlife or what, but I’ve never felt it this strongly before, the need to truly slow down in winter and rest like the bear does! Ready for the sun to slowly awaken the desire to sow seed now and see things grow. Wishing you a wonderful Spring and growing season 🌱
